The Great British Couple Give Thnaks To New York Police for finding their Proposal Ring.
Detectives in New York have tracked down a British couple who lost their engagement ring through a grate in Times Square after a romantic proposal went wrong.
“I cannot thank you enough, although I will try,” said Mr Drennan in a tweet directed at the New York police. “A few cold beers when we come back to NYC! We are completely overwhelmed and you will definitely get a mention at our wedding!”
He explained that he had proposed to his girlfriend in Central Park but the ring was too big. It later slipped off her finger and down a grate in Times Square on Friday night – a moment caught by CCTV cameras.
The couple asked for help, but police officers were initially unsuccessful at recovering the ring out and the couple left for England without leaving their names or contact information.
Mr Drennan even bought a second ring shortly after arriving at the airport.
So officers spread the CCTV footage on line. The clip, now viewed by three million people on Twitter, shows Miss Anthony putting her hand to her mouth in horror.
Mr Drennan is then seen lying on the pavement desperately looking for the ring in vain as the woman crouches down beside him.
The breakthrough came a day later when the couple were tracked down.
Dean Meminger a TV reporter for the NY1 station, reported on the development on Sunday afternoon. “#NYPD believes it has located fiancé with butterfingers who dropped engagement ring down #TimesSquare street grate. Sources tell @ny1 #police are verifying the couple’s identity. They called cops saying they are from Europe and have already flown back home.”
Later, the NYPD followed up with a picture of the happy couple holding a celebratory drink, with the words: “Thank you, Twitter. Case closed! Love, John, Daniella, and the NYPD.”
