5 things YOU need to do to prepare your home for Christmas

It may be hard to believe, but yes, it’s that time of year again: Christmas is well and truly around the corner.

So, if it’s your turn to host this year, don’t make it a turkey – get planning! From fabulous decorations to cheer up even the biggest Scrooge, to quick wins like replacing your loose loo seat, B&Q have all the items and expertise you need to make your house the place to be this festive season.

All you need to do is keep calm, follow these steps and enjoy being hailed as the most wonderful Christmas host in history..

1) First impressions count!

What is one of the first things that makes you aware a household is in the Christmas spirit? A welcoming wreath of course like the Classic Gold Effect Wreath (£12 from B&Q).

Or, you could go the whole hog and do one of those jobs you’ve been putting off for ages – painting the front door.

You could stick to something traditional or try an on-trend colour like light Grey.

That will certainly give guests something to ‘oooh’ and ‘ahhhh’ at as they arrive at yours for the festive period.

2) Make guests green with your tree

Nothing gets Christmas started like decorating the tree, but most of us have had the same trusty one for years.

So, why not make 2018 the year you treat yourself and the family to a brand new realistic tree?

3) Check your lights

Don’t bother trying to unravel some ancient lights with 19 broken bulbs this year – give your home the festive glow with B&Q.

4) Decorate the halls

Decking your hall is a must if you’re having people over for the festive period as it’s the first part of your home that they lay eyes on. So, why not take the chance to overhaul your home’s entrance with a new coat of paint?

Not only will this completely freshen up possibly the most used part of your house, but it will also give guests an amazing first impression.

5) Order your festive food in advance

Ok, we don’t mean perishables. We’re talking about stock cupboard essentials that take up the most time in the supermarket.

Before the Christmas rush, put in an online order of essentials like chocolates, crisps, mincemeat for pies, Christmas puddings, nibbles and any freezer items you have space for.

That way, in the run up to the big day you can simply buy your meat and veg – and not run around a jam-packed shop like a headless turkey.
