Dancing On Ice skater Alexandra Murphy has split from her boyfriend of two years.
The 30-year-old pro, who is partnered up with Brian McFadden on the 2019 series, is said to have gone her separate ways from medical student Marcus Stammen, 26, due to the pressure of maintaining a long-distance romance.
A source told the The Sun the couple struggled with maintaining their romance as Alex worked on the series in the UK and Marcus studied in Chicago, and claimed he had ended the relationship on Christmas Eve.They said: ‘Marcus called time on their relationship due to the amount of time Alex was spending in the UK due to her work commitments – leaving her distraught.
‘She was devastated after he finished it on Christmas Eve, which was awful timing.’Alex had no idea that he was planning on ending things between them; both agreed it was tough having a long distance relationship but their split came as a shock to her.’
MailOnline has contacted representatives for Alex and Dancing On Ice for comment.On the 2018 series, Alex reached the semi-final with Love Island champion Kem Cetinay, 22.
Alex and Marcus’ split is the latest example of the ‘Strictly’ curse which has seen high-profile splits and romances spark on the show.
The Strictly Come Dancing Curse is seen when one or more members of a couple compete on BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing. The couple is typically torn apart by time-related issues or one partner’s attraction to another person on the show.
In 2009 ex England goalkeeper David Seaman left Debbie, his wife of 11 years, and moved in with his Dancing On Ice partner Frankie Poultney.
David, 55, and Frankie, 44, went on to wed in 2015.Jennifer Metcalfe famously struck up a romance with Sylvain Longchambon after being partnered on the show in early 2011, only for their romance to end over Christmas 2012 – he began a relationship with Samia Ghadie soon after.
And Matt Lapinskas began a relationship with pro skater Brianne Delcourt soon after competing on the 2013 series.
Alex and Brian will make their debut skating appearance on this Sunday’s Dancing On Ice, as he attempts to bounce back from a ‘bad fall’.
The 38-year-old former Westlife star has been left feeling ‘anxious’ following the accident which occurred during rehearsals on Friday, reports The Sun .
